Throughout the years my family has celebrated Christmas in many different ways, but there was also some things that have stayed constant.
I believe that Christmas Traditions are what make the Holiday Season special. Things that were started by your Great-Grandparents, Grandparents, Mom and Dad, or maybe it's something you're starting with your own family this year; whatever the reason, they help us grow closer as a family.

We always make a traditional German candy that is unique to our family. It's called a Cream Roll. Now, I'm sworn to secrecy on the recipe, but let me tell you it's delicious and rich. It takes a good part of the evening to make because we make it the same way our ancestors did. It also takes our entire family to create this decadent candy, but we love it! I can remember using a wooden spoon to stir (because the recipe said so) and laughing at something my brother said while waiting to take over.
We always open our Christmas presents the morning of. It's part of the magic of the season. I love waking up to see what Santa's brought, and then spending a good hour ripping open packages with my family. I think it keeps us young. We turn into little kids excitedly opening up our presents or anxiously watching someone else open the present we bought them. I love seeing happiness when someone opens a gift I bought them.
Of course, this makes for interesting home movies. It never looks like the Christmas' you see on Hallmark Channel. You know the one's I'm talking about with everyone looking great and alert. My family sits around with hair sticking up at different angles and pajamas that look ... well slept in. But I wouldn't change it for the world.

A new tradition we've started the last few years for Christmas is reading the birth of Jesus and watching The Nativity. I adore this tradition and find myself looking forward to it more than the food or presents on Christmas Day. This was my mom's idea, and she designated me to be the storyteller each year. At the close of the day, I get out my brown, leather Bible and turn to Luke (I like the way he tells the story). Then I proceed to read the story of the very first Christmas to my family.
What Christmas traditions do you and your family share?
