Title: The Christmas Shes (Novella)
Genre: Christian Fiction
Author: Donna VanLiere
I love this book, song, and movie around this time of year. It’s a story of hope in a time when it’s hard to come by. My family has suffered the heart-breaking realities of cancer, and I believe Ms. VanLiere’s story accurately gives us a picture of that struggle a family goes through with this illness.
Nathan is an eight-year-old boy losing his mother, Maggie to cancer. Time is a precious commodity for Nathan and his family. They make each moment count, because they don’t know when it will end. Although they aren’t wealthy, they’re rich in love for one another.
Robert is a successful attorney with two daughters and a wife he barely knows. He measures his success by the dollar signs in his bank account, and he really doesn’t see the need in making time for family.
On Christmas Eve, Nathan and Robert bump into one another at a department store. Robert’s life is changed by the lesson he learns through the eyes of Nathan.
A really sweet book that inspired a movie to get God’s word out to the world. I can easily recommend this short read for anyone who enjoys reading Christmas books. WARNING: Have tissues within reaching distance, because you’ll need them.
